The Plaza Theater – Back to the Big Screen

The Plaza Theater – Back to the Big Screen

One thing I’ve missed in the pandemic is going to the movies. My favorite place to see a movie is the Plaza Theater. Sure, during the pandemic they set up a drive-in in the back parking lot. And I LOVED seeding Clint Eastwood in Fistful…

Relaxing by the River in Ellijay, GA

This spring my mom, my sister and I wanted to spend some quality time together. We decided to head to Ellijay for a weekend in the North Georgia mountains. No weekend in the mountains would be complete without the dogs so finding a dog-friendly place…

Dumplings from Northern China Eatery – a perfect start to the Lunar New Year

Dumplings from Northern China Eatery – a perfect start to the Lunar New Year

Happy Chinese New Year!! I decided the best way to kick off the Lunar New Year was with dumplings. So, tonight I ordered takeout from one of my favorite restaurants on Buford Highway, Northern China Eatery. In my humble opinion, they have the best dumplings in Atlanta. Tonight’s dinner did not disappoint: Shanghai Juicy Buns, green beans, and Pork & Chive Pot Stickers (pictured above). Happy Year of the Ox!!

If you have a hankering to try your hand at making dumplings at home, their frozen dumplings are great, too. On our trip to North Carolina last fall my friends and I picked up a bag of pork buns and shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings and made a dim sum dinner one night. Delicious!!

Lazy Betty – Atlanta, GA

For various reasons, I’ve been erring on the side of caution with COVID19. To support my favorite local restaurants I’ve been getting takeout, but last week I was finally ready to eat out again. Well, at least eat out on a patio. Since it was…

Butter & Cream: I ♥ their ice cream sandwiches

Butter & Cream: I ♥ their ice cream sandwiches

Every time my mom comes to visit, we have to get ice cream from Butter & Cream. It is a local ice cream shop in Decatur, GA that makes small batch ice cream that is SO yummy. They recently opened a second location on the…

Escape to Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Escape to Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Alice In Wonderland Under normal circumstances I would be going someplace far away and fun this summer. Sadly, COVID19 has clipped my wings. I know some people are starting to travel,  but until my mom gets through her upcoming surgery I’m playing it safe. Given that, I’m looking for activities closer to home that will satisfy my itch to get out of the house, but do so safely. That’s why I was so excited when I heard the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is open again! It checks all the boxes – beautiful, outside, easy to social distance. As a bonus, it is constantly changing – every time you go something different will be in bloom.

The White Rabbit
Queen of Hearts
Cheshire Cat Walk
This summer they have a reprise and update of their Alice in Wonderland topiary exhibit. It is so fun. Who doesn’t want to go down the rabbit hole with Alice? Where else can you see a larger-than-life Queen of Heart’s playing hedge-hog croquette? Or look for the Cheshire cats along the cat walk?

Mom and I had a great time exploring the gardens. Since they are limiting the number of visitors it felt like we had the place to our selves. We could take as much time as we wanted enjoying the peace and quite with the Lady of the Lake and looking for frogs among the lily pads. Any season of the year I love a visit to ABG, but in this season of covid19, I appreciated the local escape that much more. With all of the craziness happening in our world today, it was nice to just take a moment with my mom to stop and smell the roses.

Looking forward to dinner at La Tavola

Looking forward to dinner at La Tavola

During the pandemic one of the things I’ve missed most is going out to restaurants with friends. One of my favorite restaurants has always been La Tavola in Virginia Highlands. I always look forward to La Tavola: Molto Monday pasta, birthday dinners, Sunday brunch, summer…
